Law Seminars International: Managing the Modern Utility Rate Case
Collin Cain: “Déjà vu All Over Again?” Nuclear Power in Future Electric Rate Cases
Bates White announces that Mr. Collin Cain will be speaking at the Law Seminars International conference, “Managing the Modern Utility Rate Case” in Las Vegas on February 13–14, 2006.
Mr. Cain’s presentation, “Déjà vu All Over Again? Nuclear Power in Future Electric Rate Cases,” discusses renewed prospects of nuclear power as a viable energy source given recent market changes. To avoid repeating history, he demonstrates why it is critical to assess key economic and regulatory issues related to nuclear power plants in utility rate cases prior to making any investments. Mr. Cain identifies the primary drivers of risk in this market of uncertainty and shows how, when properly considered, they can become investment options that help alleviate potential future financial risks. Specifically, he compares a no-investment option analysis to a real-options analysis to demonstrate the importance of staged investments. By objectively quantifying the risks, it will be possible to determine the overall economic viability of nuclear power investments.
This conference will provide attorneys, government officials, and professionals working in the energy industry with a solid foundation on the regulatory impacts of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. In addition, the conference will cover cost of capital and M&A matters, innovative rates and demand response, new technologies and their risks, and rate case treatment of fuel costs.
