Northwestern University Professor of Economics Aviv Nevo will assume the role of Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economic Analysis at the Department of Justice on April 1, 2013. In this role, he will supervise teams of economists investigating competitive impact in agency investigations, including mergers.
During his time with DOJ, Dr. Nevo will be on leave from Northwestern and will end his relationship with Bates White. The firm congratulates Dr. Nevo on his appointment and wishes him continued success in his new position. We thank him for his many contributions throughout his collaborative relationship with the firm.

He is widely regarded as an intellectual pioneer in the use of data to analyze consumer preferences, which is fundamental to many of our enforcement matters. The division is fortunate to have his expertise guiding our economic analysis.”
Dr. Nevo is an expert in empirical industrial organization and econometrics and has served as an expert in several cases. Prior to joining the faculty of Northwestern University, Dr. Nevo held teaching positions at the University of California, Berkeley, and MIT. He has also served as a visiting lecturer at universities around the world, including Tel Aviv University and University College London. Dr. Nevo has been awarded an NSF CAREER grant, a Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship, and the Compass Prize. Dr. Nevo received a doctorate and a master’s degree in economics from Harvard University.
