Summary
Gaurav Bagwe is a Senior Economist in the Mass Torts Practice at Bates White. He received his PhD from Georgetown University, where he taught undergraduate courses in Intermediate Microeconomics and graduate courses in Mathematics for Economists. He has extensive experience using economic theory combined with econometric modelling to study complex questions.
In his doctoral studies, Dr. Bagwe specialized in political economy and law and economics. In his dissertation, he formulated and structurally estimated a dynamic game-theoretic model of decision making on the US Supreme Court to measure the justices’ ideologies and adherence to precedent. He used this model to simulate counterfactual outcomes if there were a change in the ideological composition of the Court or if there were a super-majority requirement to overrule precedent. His other research examines the effect of distance to polling places on voter turnout and the optimal location of polling places.
