Determination of Rates and Terms for Preexisting Subscription and Satellite Digital Audio Radio Services
Supported expert testimony on behalf of Music Choice, the largest US cable music service, before the Copyright Royalty Board. Determined a reasonable royalty rate for the sound recording licenses that Music Choice obtains from record labels and artists. Used a formal bargaining framework to explain why interactive webcasters that displace record sales pay higher royalty rates, while pre-existing services that promote record sales, such as Music Choice, pay lower royalty rates.
