In re Nvidia Corporation et al.
On behalf of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Bates White supported Academic Affiliate Robin Lee of Harvard University in analyzing the proposed $40 billion semiconductor chip merger between Nvidia Corporation and UK chip design provider Arm Ltd. Arm creates and licenses microprocessor designs to other technology companies. Nvidia is best known as the supplier of standalone GPUs for personal computers and for products used in advanced networking that rely on Arm’s technology. The FTC sued to block the vertical merger, stating that it would give one of the largest chip companies control over the technology and designs that rival firms rely on to develop their own competing chips. The merging parties ultimately abandoned the transaction.
