Nova Scotia Power integrated resource plan
On behalf of the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board, Bates White provided review and comments on Nova Scotia Power's recently completed Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). Nova Scotia's IRP develops a long-term strategy that will allow the utility to transition from its traditional reliance on coal-fired generation to a resource portfolio that would greatly reduce greenhouse gas and other emissions over the 25-year planning horizon while maintaining system reliability at the lowest cost. Bates White was involved in every step of the process, which began in the summer of 2019, providing input on the IRP assumptions (such as the cost of new technologies), scenario and sensitivity analyses (such as high natural gas price and low electricity demand scenarios), and modeling techniques and results. Bates White identified key risks going forward and advised on the steps to take to transition from the plan to action items that mitigate risk and maximize value to ratepayers.
