Foster Garvey is pleased to announce that Tom Ahearne, based in the firm's Seattle office, was elected to the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) Board of Governors in the recent statewide election.
The Washington State Bar has over 30,000 members, and Tom will serve for three years on its Board of Governors as Governor At-Large for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, In that role, Tom (who is a paraplegic in a wheelchair and member of the Executive Board of the NAACP’s Alaska/Oregon/Washington State Area Conference), reports that he will be actively working to make the legal system in Washington State operate in a way that’s more equitable and fair for ALL people within its borders.

Tom is a respected litigator with more than 35 years of trial court and appellate experience. He brings to the Board of Governors a proven track record of securing favorable outcomes on behalf of his clients and the community. His notable work championing justice and civil rights spans decades, and includes high-profile constitutional and public school funding litigation such as McCleary v. State and Wahkiakum v. State.
The Board of Governors is the WSBA's governing body responsible to the Washington State Supreme Court to establish the State Bar’s course, discipline, policies, and budget. The Board of Governors consists of its president, president-elect, immediate past president, a Governor elected from each of Washington’s congressional districts, and three at-large Governors.
