Kersten Kortbawi, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, will be a presenter for the live webinar “Bad Faith or Fair Conduct: A Review of the 2022 New Jersey Insurance Fair Conduct Act,” which will be presented by the Middlesex County Bar Association (MCBA) on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 12:00pm – 1:30pm.
This presentation will provide an overview of the New Jersey Insurance Fair Conduct Act (IFCA), signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy on January 18, 2022. The speakers will discuss some of the recent trial court decisions interpreting the statute and its application to UM/UIM claims and will provide practice tips for carriers and insureds litigating bad faith claims under UM/UIM policies.
Ms. Kortbawi serves on the MCBA’s Board of Trustees. She is an experienced commercial litigator who represents plaintiffs and defendants in all forms of civil litigation at both the state and federal level. She frequently handles sensitive, unique, and high-exposure matters, including those related to complex construction disputes, consumer fraud claims, private equity fraud, personal injury actions, and product liability matters. In addition, Ms. Kortbawi provides business counseling, risk management and corporate advisory services to clients. Prior to commencing her legal practice, she served as the chief operating officer of a family-owned wholesale marine supply company for over a decade.
