Jemi Goulian Lucey, Counsel in the firm's Litigation Department, will be a panelist for “Cannabis Law in New Jersey and the Intersection between State and Federal Law,” to be presented at the New Jersey State Bar Association’s 2019 Annual Meeting and Convention, which takes place May 15-17, 2019 at the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City. Ms. Lucey’s program is scheduled for Thursday, May 16 from 3:30pm – 5:00pm.

This program will address the current state of the federal and state law as to cannabis, the criminal, ethical, employment, banking and real estate implications, and the preemption argument.  New Jersey’s Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act (CUMMA), pending amendments thereto, and the possibility that a law decriminalizing the recreational use of marijuana is on the horizon, all exist at odds with the Federal Controlled Substances Act.  This panel discussion will address how businesses and attorneys can navigate these issues.  

At this year's NJSBA Annual Meeting and Convention, Ms. Lucey will be installed as Chair of the Federal Practice and Procedure Section. She concentrates her practice on employment litigation, higher education law, professional negligence defense and the productive use of litigation technology to reduce litigation costs and increase efficiency.  Ms. Lucey represents mid-market companies, institutions of higher learning, and public entities in federal and state civil litigation matters concerning employment discrimination and retaliation claims, professional negligence defense, Higher Education and Title IX alleged violations, business torts, and commercial contract disputes.
