Maura E. Blau, Counsel in the firm’s Environmental Department, will lecture on issues related to climate change, disaster law and emergency preparedness at the New Jersey State Bar Association Construction Law Section’s CLE Dinner Meeting on September 13, 2017. The meeting, co-sponsored by the Bar’s Environmental Law Section, will be held at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
Many public and private construction projects have and will be designed to take into account the effects of climate issues, ranging from severe weather to coastal flooding. Recognizing the need to address the changing environment and ongoing social and economic stresses, this presentation will demonstrate various approaches for strengthening the underlying fabric of our cities. Ms. Blau will discuss legal approaches relating to climate adaptation as part of the meeting programming.
Ms. Blau counsels clients on a broad range of environmental and energy related matters. She has a longstanding interest and particular practice focus with respect to alternative energy, sustainable building initiatives and climate change issues. She closely follows related legislative and regulatory developments at the state, federal and global levels, and played a role in crafting the New Jersey Energy Master Plan as an engineer with the former NJ Department of Energy. Ms. Blau has degrees in environmental science and mechanical engineering as well as law, and has also completed coursework in Climate Change Law at Pace Law School, offered as part of its environmental LLM curriculum. She is past Chair of the NJSBA Environmental Section and co-Founder and co-Chair of the NJSBA Special Committee on Renewable Energy, Cleantech and Climate Change.
