Emily A. Kaller, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, will be a panelist at the ERA symposium “Forward Together, Backwards Never. The History and Future of the Equal Rights Amendment” on Friday, March 24, 2023. The full-day program will be presented by the Alice Paul Institute in partnership with the New Jersey State Bar Association, and with the support of the New Jersey Historical Commission, from 8:30am – 5:30pm at the New Jersey Law Center.

Ms. Kaller will participate in a panel discussion on “Ordinary Equality in the Practice of Law.” New Jersey has long been a standard bearer for legal equality, and the panel will discuss the multifaceted history of women’s legal rights in New Jersey. The agenda will explore the evolution of women’s rights in the state since its founding, as well as the way Article I of the state’s 1947 Constitution has shaped those rights in the modern era. The panel will also explore the complexity of federal Equal Rights Amendment litigation, considering the myriad lawsuits and unprecedented controversary around the ratification, publication, and status of the amendment.

Ms. Kaller is Chair of the NJSBA LGBTQ Rights Section and a past President of Trial Attorneys of New Jersey. Her practice focuses on commercial litigation, including the prosecution and defense of financing, credit and other banking matters, contract disputes including those arising under licensing and asset sale agreements, environmental contamination contribution actions, and complex litigation.
