Alan S. Pralgever, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department, will lecture at a presentation entitled “Ethics for Mediators; Ethics for Negotiators,” scheduled for March 30, 2016 from 8:00am – 9:20am at the New York Law School. The event, which is open to the public, is part of the NYLS Alternative Dispute Resolution Skills Program, which offers special breakfast events to introduce topics and speakers of interest.

The program will provide an overview of lawyers’ ethical obligations to third parties in negotiation, as well as mediators’ ethical obligations to the parties and the profession.  Studies have concluded that between 30-45% of lawyers make incorrect decisions when asked straightforward hypotheticals involving such matters as a negotiator’s duty to disclose material facts. Many mediators find themselves constantly challenged by the negotiation tactics of the party representatives with whom they work. This interactive program keeps both party advocates and neutrals on their toes, in an entertaining and insightful presentation.

Mr. Pralgever concentrates his practice in business and commercial litigation, with a special focus in corporate, partnership and LLC split-ups and dissolutions, condominium matters and representation of associations, estate litigation, employment issues, real estate and intellectual property disputes.  He has handled a wide variety of complex commercial and corporate litigation in state and federal courts, as well as arbitrations in both New Jersey and New York. He is certified by the New Jersey Superior Court as a civil mediator. He is also accredited as an attorney by the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs for the purpose of preparing, presenting, and prosecuting claims before the VA. He appears in arbitration matters and was in the past appointed to the panel of arbitrators before the American Arbitration Association for commercial and construction matters.
