28th Annual Spring Symposia
Lydia C. Stefanowicz, a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Department, will be a panelist at the American Bar Association Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law (RPTE) Annual Spring Symposia Meeting, where she will participate in a session entitled “The 2015 Local Counsel Opinion Report: A Revolutionary Supplement to the Real Estate Finance Opinion Report of 2012.” The two-day meeting will take place on May 12-13, 2016 at the Westin Copley Place Hotel in Boston, MA.
This program will present the 2015 Local Counsel Opinion Report prepared by representatives from the respective opinion committees of the ABA RPTE Section, the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL) and the American College of Mortgage Attorneys (ACMA). The program will:
- Describe the role of local counsel in multi-state financings and how that role differs from lead borrower’s counsel
- Explain how the assumptions and qualifications in local counsel opinions differ from those in lead counsel opinions
- Discuss the opinions are appropriate, and not appropriate, for local counsel to give – and why
Ms. Stefanowicz is Co-Chair of the Opinions Committee of ACMA and Secretary of the Attorney Opinions Committee of ACREL, and is a fellow in both Colleges. She concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial lending and real estate, providing counsel related to real estate acquisitions, construction, permanent mortgage and mezzanine financings, workouts and debt restructuring transactions, and in connection with the formation of joint ventures to acquire, develop, construct and manage properties.
