Robert S. Goldsmith, co-Chair of the firm’s Redevelopment & Land Use Department, will lecture on “The Future of Parking, Today” at the 2017 New Jersey Future Redevelopment Forum, which will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 9:00am – 5:00pm at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick.  Mr. Goldsmith’s presentation will take place from 11:00am – 12:30pm.

For generations, the demand for parking has seemingly grown unabated. But now, for the first time since perhaps the invention of the automobile, experts are predicting a decline in the demand for parking in urban areas. This is due to anticipated technological advances in the areas of autonomous, self-driving vehicles, the proliferation of shared-vehicle services and changing societal values and trends. Mr. Goldsmith and his fellow panelists will discuss the ways these trends are being addressed across the country as well as other parking-reduction strategies such as shared-parking and complete streets.

Mr. Goldsmith's practice focuses on redevelopment, downtown and urban revitalization, transit oriented development, project financing and incentives, sustainable building initiatives and public-private partnerships. His experience encompasses counseling clients on the specialized issues in redevelopment related to parking demand, design and construction. Mr. Goldsmith also has broad experience in complex commercial litigation, construction litigation and appellate work.  He is a New Jersey Future trustee and president of Downtown New Jersey.
