Robert Walker Discusses Insider Trading Rules for Lawmakers on The Diane Rehm Show

The Diane Rehm Show
December 22, 2011

Robert L. Walker, former Chief Counsel to the House and Senate ethics committees and an attorney in Wiley Rein's Election Law & Government Ethics Practice, was a guest on "The Diane Rehm Show" to discuss issues surrounding insider trading and ethics on Capitol Hill.

Mr. Walker put forward that while elected officials are allowed to make investments in areas and industries that fall within their jurisdiction, they are still barred from insider trading.  "There have been numerous stories that insider trading is legal in Congress and the fact of the matter is that is not true," said Mr. Walker.  "In other ways, members can certainly trade in securities and it's important to keep in mind that there is public disclosure."

Mr. Walker was joined on the show by The Wall Street Journal reporter Brody Mullins; Donna Nagy professor of law, Indiana University Maurer School of Law; and Peter Schweizer, William J. Casey Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution.
