House Amends Travel and Gift Rules

January 2007

On January 4, 2007, as part of the Democrats' "First 100 Hours" legislative program, the House voted to amend several aspects of its travel and gift rules.

Several of these rules were effective immediately, while some of the new travel rules do not become effective until March 1, 2007. These rules do not affect interaction with the Senate, which is in the process of examining its own rules as well as legislation relating to ethics and lobbying.
