STOCK Act Becomes the Law of the Land

May 2012

On April 4, 2012, President Obama signed into law the "Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act of 2012," known also as the STOCK Act.  This new law restricts trading on inside information by Members of Congress and their staff, but the new law also has important ramifications for private-sector folks who learn, report, pass-on and act upon "material, nonpublic information" from the Hill and the Executive Branch.
