Louisiana to Remove PAC Limits for Campaigns
Effective August 1, candidates in Louisiana will be permitted to accept unlimited contributions directly from political action committees. Sponsored by State Senator Ed Price, SB 4 was signed into law by Governor John Bel Edwards in June.
Before this change, PACs could contribute up to $80,000 to major office candidates (which include the governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, certain judges, and candidates running in election districts with populations larger than 250,000); $60,000 to district office candidates (which include legislators, parish-wide officeholders, and others); and $20,000 to all other candidates. These limits applied jointly to the primary and general elections.
