FCC Requests Comment on Caller ID Authentication on Non-IP Networks: In this Notice of Inquiry (NOI) the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) seeks comment on caller ID authentication technology for non-IP networks and how best to address what the FCC calls a “remaining gap” in its caller ID authentication scheme. Comments are due December 12 and Reply Comments are due January 11, 2023.
FTC Seeks Comment on Impersonation Fraud: In this Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requests comment on proposed rules that would prohibit the impersonation of government agencies, businesses, or their officials. Specifically, the FTC “proposes expressly to impose liability on those who provide the means and instrumentalities of violations of the prohibitions against impersonation of government and businesses, but it declines to seek to impose assisting-and-facilitating liability.” Comments are due December 16.
FCC Seeks Comment on Proposed Reporting Requirements on Compromised Emergency Alert System Equipment: In this NPRM, the FCC requests comment on proposed reporting requirements intended to improve the security of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). The NRPM would require EAS participants “to report compromises of their EAS equipment, communications systems, and services to the Commission,” as well as require Commercial Mobile Service (CMS) providers that participate in WEA to annually certify that they have a cybersecurity risk management plan in place, among other proposals. Comments are due December 23 and Reply Comments are due January 23, 2023. Read more here.
FCC Seeks Comment on NGSO Operations in the 17 GHz Band: In this NPRM, the FCC seeks comment “on amending its rules to enable non-geostationary (NGSO) fixed-satellite service (FSS) (space-to-Earth) operations in the 17.3-17.8 GHz frequency band.” The Commission also requests comment on what technical rules would be needed to prevent harmful interference between NGSO FSS operations and other authorized operations. Comments are due December 27 and Reply Comments are due January 24, 2023.
