Wiley Rein & Fielding Secures Dismissal of Antitrust Litigation Brought Against Nation’s Largest Steel Producer

Washington, DC—In a significant ruling, Wiley Rein & Fielding has secured the dismissal of antitrust litigation brought against Nucor Corporation, the largest steel producer in the United States.  The litigation, brought by Gulf States Reorganization Group, Inc., alleged that Nucor violated federal antitrust laws by virtue of its involvement in the purchase of steel-related assets during the bankruptcy proceedings of the former Gulf States Steel, Inc. of Alabama. 

In granting Defendants’ motion for summary judgment, Judge R. David Proctor of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama found that Defendants’ actions did not cause the alleged injuries, that Plaintiffs lacked antitrust standing, and that Plaintiffs failed to show any conduct by Defendants that violated the antitrust laws.
