WRF Files Supreme Court Brief in Campaign Finance Case on Behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of the U.S.

Washington, DC—Wiley Rein & Fielding has filed an amicus curiae brief in the U.S. Supreme Court in the Wisconsin Right to Life v. FEC case on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States.  This pending campaign finance case, over which the Court has noted probable jurisdiction, raises the issue of whether corporations may be barred from financing public advertising about pending legislation if the advertisement mentions the name of a legislator and is disseminated within 90 days of an election.  The appellant, WRTL, asserts that a U.S. statute prohibiting all pre-election advertising mentioning a candidate is unconstitutional as applied to such ads.  Wiley Rein & Fielding's brief supports this position.
