Wiley Rein Commemorates Anniversary of September 11 with Series of Events Honoring the Memory of Karen A. Kincaid

September 9, 2010

Wiley Rein marked the anniversary of September 11 with a day-long program of events honoring the memory of Karen A. Kincaid, a partner in the firm’s Communications Practice who died in the attack on the Pentagon.  Managing Partner Richard E. Wiley described the day as “a celebration of Karen’s life and commitment to her friends, family and community.”

Shortly after September 11, the firm established The Karen Kincaid Memorial Blood Drive to benefit the Washington Hospital Center.  This annual event takes place steps from a sculpture commissioned in Ms. Kincaid’s memory and reflective of one of her passions, her love of animals.  Ms. Kincaid enthusiastically supported the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL), and as a tribute to her dedication, this year the firm instituted its first-ever pet contest, with proceeds going to that organization.  With remarkable firm-wide participation, attorneys and staff nominated their own pets in a range of categories; everyone was given a ballot.  Contributions to WARL in Ms. Kincaid’s memory were solicited and then matched by the firm.

Donations to help further WARL’s mission of providing care to hundreds of dogs and cats until they can be found permanent homes can be made to Washington Animal Rescue League, 71 Oglethorpe Street NW, Washington, DC  20011.
