Corporate Counsel Magazine Names Six Wiley Rein & Fielding Attorneys as Best Lawyers in America
Washington, DC—Wiley Rein & Fielding LLP is pleased to announce that based on a nationwide survey of more than 350,000 attorneys, six partners from the firm have been named as "Best Lawyers in America" for excellence in business litigation by Corporate Counsel magazine in conjunction with the legal referral guide The Best Lawyers in America.
The April 2003 issue of the magazine lists name partners Richard E. Wiley, Bert W. Rein and Fred F. Fielding; and partners Thomas W. Brunner, Richard C. Lowery and Bruce L. McDonald .
Richard E. Wiley serves as the firm’s managing partner and head of the firm’s 70-lawyer Communications Practice. Wiley served as General Counsel, Commissioner and Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission from 1970 to 1977. In 2002, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Broadcasters and Washingtonian magazine named him among the top lawyers in Washington, DC.
Bert W. Rein is a senior partner and chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice and represents international and domestic clients in diverse legal areas such as Antitrust, Food & Drug and Intellectual Property. He is a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Supreme Court Law Clerk. Rein is widely recognized as a leading litigator and international law expert. He was instrumental in guiding Intelsat, the international satellite organization, through the intricacies of conversion from an intergovernmental organization to a private company.
Fred F. Fielding chairs the firm’s Government Affairs and Crisis Management/White Collar Defense practices. Fielding also represents clients in the Business & Finance Practice. He has served as both White House Counsel (1981-1986) and Deputy Counsel (1972-1974). According to The Wall Street Journal, "His personal integrity and political pitch are nearly perfect." In 2003, Speaker of the House Dennis J. Hastert named Fielding to the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks, the panel formed to investigate the events of September 11.
Thomas W. Brunner is head of the Insurance, Insurance Fraud and Privacy practices. He is widely recognized for his expertise and has built one of the largest and most successful insurance practices in the country representing some of the nation’s largest insurance carriers. A frequent author and lecturer, he has more than 20 successful years of extensive trial and appellate level litigation and he counsels clients on coordinated nationwide litigation strategies to avoid overall risks.
Partners Richard C. Lowery and Bruce L. McDonald are highly experienced litigators who have been with the firm since its founding in 1983. Lowery is a member of the firm’s Litigation and Antitrust practices and has been named among the "Best Litigators in America." McDonald is a partner in the Aerospace & Aviation, Election Law & Government Ethics, Litigation, Health Care, Health & Safety Products and Privacy practices. He has recently published articles regarding privacy regulations concerning medical records and healthcare information.
