Los Angeles Times Calls Wiley The Sixth Commissioner … Again!

Washington, DC—A Los Angeles Times story reporting on a housewife who has been successfully lobbying the Federal Communications Commission regarding policy issues affecting the security of her husband’s job as a telecommunications technician explained that FCC commissioners say they rarely receive requests to meet with individual citizens. The story went on to say, "By contrast, industry lobbyists are such a common sight in the FCC’s Washington headquarters that one of them, veteran Washington communications lawyer Richard E. Wiley, is called the sixth FCC commissioner."

In a January 15, 2001 profile of Mr. Wiley, the Los Angeles Times said, "Wiley, an energetic, bespectacled 66-year-old, has become such an influential force behind the scenes that he is often referred to as the ‘sixth commissioner’ to the five-member FCC."
