Dot Powell-Woodson Co-Edits AHLA’s New Book ‘Health Care Contracts: A Clause-by-Clause Guide to Drafting and Negotiation’

October 21, 2021

Washington, DC – Wiley, a preeminent Washington, DC law firm, is pleased to announce that Health Care Practice co-chair Dorthula (Dot) Powell-Woodson served as co-Editor in Chief for the upcoming release of Health Care Contracts: A Clause-by-Clause Guide to Drafting and Negotiation published by the American Health Law Association (AHLA).

As co-Editor in Chief of the 246-page guide, Powell-Woodson leveraged her more than 30 years of legal expertise drafting, negotiating, and overseeing administration of health care contracts of all types. Health Care Contracts: A Clause-by-Clause Guide to Drafting and Negotiation was designed to facilitate the day-to-day work of attorneys relatively new to negotiating, drafting, and/or reviewing contracts related to the operation of a health care organization, including health care vendor contracts, service contracts, and employment contracts.

AHLA’s press release noted that the book includes, among other topics, insights from health care experts across the United States, with chapters on fraud and abuse laws, health care information privacy laws, indemnification, representations and warranties, and termination provisions. The guide is available for pre-order on LexisNexis for AHLA members as well as the broader health law professional community.

Powell-Woodson has served in numerous leadership roles at AHLA, including on the Board of Directors, on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Health and Life Sciences Law, and as co-chair of AHLA’s Diversity & Leadership Council. In 2020, she was awarded the prestigious role of AHLA Fellow for her distinguished career and leadership across the field of health law.

In addition to co-leading Wiley’s Health Care Practice, Powell-Woodson serves on the firm’s Executive and Management Committees. In her practice, she counsels health care clients on government health care procurements and contracting, contract administration, and state and federal regulatory compliance. A significant component of her practice is drafting and negotiating complex contracts for various ancillary health care programs, most notably for pharmacy benefits, but also for dental, vision, disease management, behavioral health, telehealth and various consumer tools.

AHLA is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) educational organization devoted to legal issues in the health care field. The association’s 13,000 members include physicians, hospitals and health systems, health plans and health maintenance organizations, health insurers, life sciences, managed care companies, nursing facilities, home care providers, and consumers.
