Wiley’s David Weinberg Receives ‘Distinguished Service Award’ From Battery Council International

September 24, 2021

Washington, DC – Wiley, a preeminent Washington, DC law firm, is pleased to announce that Environment & Product Regulation Practice partner David B. Weinberg was honored by Battery Council International (BCI) with a 2020 “Distinguished Service Award” for his years of stellar service to the battery industry. Weinberg received the award on September 23, 2021 at the 2021 BCI Convention + Power Mart Expo in San Diego, CA.

The BCI Distinguished Service Award is presented by the BCI Board of Directors to individuals who have made a sustained, long-term, and meaningful contribution to the advancement of the association and the industry.

“I’m very pleased to be recognized by this longtime client” Weinberg said. “Batteries play an inescapable role in modern life and BCI has been a leader in demonstrating manufacturers’ commitment to sound environmental management.”

“On behalf of the BCI Board of Directors, I’m pleased to present one of the industry’s leading advocates over the last 30 years, David Weinberg, with the BCI 2020 Distinguished Service Award,” said Roger Miksad, executive vice president of BCI. “Today, we recognize David’s commitment to the industry and his tireless leadership that has guided BCI and the lead battery industry to where we are today.”

Weinberg and a team of Wiley lawyers and analysts have promoted sustainability for decades. He was one of the original authors of – and advocates for – a groundbreaking model lead battery recycling law which has been adopted by more than 40 states since its development than 30 years ago. BCI’s development and promotion of that legislation, in which Weinberg played an important strategy role, was celebrated last year by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) as one of the most important regulatory accomplishments of the past 100 years.

Wiley's lawyers and regulatory analysts have played the leading role among law firms in addressing public policy and regulatory challenges facing developers, manufacturers, users, and recyclers of virtually all battery technologies around the world. The team counsels clients on environmental, health and safety, and other issues associated with batteries and energy storage throughout the entire product or project lifecycle, and in litigation and legislative affairs. Wiley’s legal and policy experience with the battery industry, portable electronics, and electric vehicles is unparalleled.

BCI is the North American trade association representing the lead-based battery manufacturing, supply, recycling, and distribution companies. ASAE is the essential organization for association management, representing both organizations and individual association professionals. It is widely known as the association for associations.
