Wiley’s Lukman Azeez Elected President of Capital Area Muslim Bar Association

Washington, DC – Wiley is pleased to announce that Lukman S. Azeez, associate in the firm’s Litigation Practice, has been named President of the Board of Directors of the Capital Area Muslim Bar Association (CAMBA). Mr. Azeez will serve as President from January 1, 2021 to January 1, 2022.

CAMBA is the leading bar association for Muslim attorneys in the Capital Area. CAMBA’s mission is to foster a sense of fellowship among diverse Muslim legal professionals and establish an institutional presence within the Capital Area legal community. CAMBA strives to elevate its members to prominence, develop future leaders, and amplify a collective voice to impact legal issues affecting the Muslim community.

At Wiley, Mr. Azeez is an appellate and trial litigator, representing individuals and corporations in federal appellate courts in such matters as bankruptcy, the False Claims Act, civil Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO), Article III standing, and separation of powers. Mr. Azeez has an active international arbitration practice, having represented West African and North American corporations in disputes before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration.

A key participant in Wiley’s substantial pro bono activities, Mr. Azeez has won awards from the firm including recognition for his assistance drafting an amicus brief on behalf of two nonprofit groups – Protect Our Defenders and The Black Veterans’ Project. Wiley had submitted the brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in Jackson v. Braithwaite, in support of a petition seeking to apply racial discrimination protection to active duty members of the military under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

Mr. Azeez was selected as a Wiley participant in the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Pathfinders program for the 2020 class. The program trains early-career attorneys in critical professional development strategies to help strengthen their leadership skills, while building strong business and collegial networks.

Mr. Azeez received a J.D. from Yale Law School and an M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management. He was the executive editor of the Yale Journal of Law and Technology, and also served as editor of the Yale Law and Policy Review and the Yale Journal on Regulation. Mr. Azeez also served as a law clerk for the Honorable Evan J. Wallach of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

A rising star in his practice, Mr. Azeez was named to The Best Lawyers in America directory of “Ones to Watch” for Appellate Law in 2021.
