Amundsen Davis provides law students with the opportunity to experience the practice of law at the firm through our law clerk program. Working closely with attorneys in the Illinois, Wisconsin, St. Louis, Columbus and Indianapolis offices, law clerks investigate facts, review documents, research legal issues, and draft legal memoranda, correspondence, and pleadings amongst other projects. Amundsen Davis's cultural emphasis on professional development and education is evident as clerks are considered an important member of the teams in which they are placed and are invited to participate in all aspects of the practice (when possible), attend service group meetings, join associate training courses and more. Clerks are evaluated and provided with constructive feedback throughout their time with the firm.
The clerk program replaces the firm’s former Summer Associate program allowing law students to spend a more in-depth amount of time within the firm and to foster greater opportunities for mentorship and education on the practical aspects of the legal profession and law firm culture. Candidate selection considers a balance of academic success, strong interpersonal skills, maturity, motivation and our firm’s present hiring needs. Clerks are hired on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Amundsen Davis's law clerk program is designed to boost equity in the clerk hiring process by creating a uniform application and hiring process for candidates and adds diversity to the pipeline of first year associates hired by the firm.
