Overview
We're proud to host our third annual appreciation event on February 18, 2016 in celebration of Black History Month at the Park Hyatt, Chicago located at 800 N. Michigan Avenue. Please see photos from the event below.
Guests will enjoy drinks and hors d'oeuvres, a celebratory toast from guest speaker Honorable Sharon Johnson Coleman (United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois [Chicago], bio below) and a musical performance by Rashada Dawan (Vocalist, Black Ensemble Theater).
President Obama nominated Judge Coleman in 2010 for the federal judiciary and she received unanimous approval (86-0) from the U.S. Senate. Prior to her federal court appointment, Judge Coleman was a justice on the Illinois Appellate Court, First District. From 1996 until 2008 she was elected to serve as a circuit court judge in Cook County. For 10 of those years, she served as a jury trial judge in the Law division. During her pre-judicial career, she practiced exclusively in the public sector as an Assistant State's Attorney, Deputy State's Attorney and an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Judge Coleman is an active participant of our community as a member of the Black Women Lawyers’ Association, the Chicago Bar Association (Board of Managers), Cook County Bar Association, Illinois Judicial Council, Just the Beginning Foundation, Seventh Circuit Bar Association, and Women’s Bar Association. Judge Coleman is also a fellow of Leadership Greater Chicago and has been the recipient of several awards and honors, including the Esther Rothstein Award and the C. F. Stradford Award.
