Overview
Intellectual property significantly impacts a company's competitive advantage and should be treated like the valuable asset that it is. Without the proper policies, procedures, agreements, and registrations in place, these intangible assets that are a company's differentiator can be put at risk by the company's own employees. Whether accidental or intentional, a company's employees are often one of the biggest threats to a company's intangible assets. However, by acting proactively, a company and its attorneys can work together to avoid such a situation and keep the business moving forward with its IP intact and not at risk of compromise.
The presentation will start with the basics of IP and IP ownership before moving on to a discussion of frequent mistakes that employees make when it comes to IP and how a company and its attorneys can work together to prevent them. Finally, a discussion of best practices that can be used to protect IP at onboarding, termination, and in between will help attorneys to advise their clients for maximum protection.
