Amundsen Davis serves as outside counsel to a subscription-led and digitally focused media and marketing solutions company with a portfolio of local media outlets across the country and overseas.
Our Entertainment Media & Technology practice group routinely defends news reporters and media publications in litigation matters filed in State and Federal Courts alleging claims of Defamation and False Light Invasion of Privacy. Additionally, we counsel and represent media clients in pursuing Freedom of Information Act requests and appeals, as well as in responding to intrusive subpoenas demanding confidential source information.
In multiple, related lawsuits brought before the Eastern District of Michigan, Amundsen Davis defended a local news reporter against claims of Defamation, False Light, Conspiracy and Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress for articles published in connection with a federal investigation into a physician’s unlawful prescribing of controlled substances. The District Court granted our motions to dismiss the original and amended complaints. The ruling was subsequently upheld by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and United States Supreme Court.
