Overview
Ryan Jacobson was quoted in a Chicago Daily Law Bulletin article where a Texas woman is now required to come to Chicago to face a lawsuit accusing her of trying to ruin a former boyfriend’s life.
In a written opinion last week, U.S. District Judge Charles P. Kocoras denied the woman's motion to move the suit to the Eastern District of Texas. The plaintiff — a Chicago businessman who filed the suit as a John Doe — maintains that after they broke up, the defendant launched a campaign to compromise his “reputation, livelihood and emotional well-being” by spreading lies about him, Doe alleges.
Ryan, who represents the plaintiff, comments in the article "in today’s digital age, the click of a button and a few choice words can wreak havoc on a target’s personal and professional reputation from thousands of miles away." He continues, "even worse, the culprit can avoid detection using crafty screen names or scrambled IP addresses.”
