Employee Harassment by Customers

Employers should remember that harassment in the workplace includes situations where an employee interacts with a non-employee, such as a customer, vendor or contractor. In the Hoosier Banker's November/December 2023 issue, Debra Mastrian discusses some recent cases across the country where employers faced penalties for their lack of action in responding to complaints of harassment in the workplace. While many cases may need to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, it’s important that all employers review their policies and are prepared to address harassment by non-employees.
